Hopefully Ed should be home today. When I spoke to him yesterday afternoon, there was a very good chance he'd be released from the hospital last night. I'll try to reach him later.
On the news this morning, they announced that the male who fled on foot was believed to be the passenger and that the drunken woman on the scene who hit the telephone pole was actually the driver.

Good news!
Now they can't hold the driver responsible for Ed's mishap, can they?
The news said "charges and arrest pending".
I'm thinking that a chain reaction started by a drunk driver hitting a pole might be treated as if she hit someone in a car. The truck wouldn't have been involved and caught the phone lines if she hadn't drunkenly crossed the oncoming lane and hit the telephone pole, causing it to crack and bend down, starting the chain reaction.
The most unfortunate part is that there was just enough time for her to get out of her car, Ed to stop, and THEN the truck caught the lines and brought the pole crashing down.
I lost score here somewhere. There were 4 people at the scene, right? Ed and his wife, the drunk girl (guy bolted) and the property owner? Who all got hit by the pole?
Right. Ed and the property owner were hit by the pole. Ed's wife was just knocked to the ground (bruised on the concrete).
